What is infant massage? Infant massage is an ancient art practiced in many cultures as a natural part of child rearing. It combines methods and techniques for communicating with an infant through touch, resulting in many benefits.

In our high-tech, fast paced Western society touch is an undervalued and neglected sense. However, due to proven physical, emotional an developmental benefits, this lost art is enjoying a resurgence in our society. Today we are striving to consider people holistically and look beyond medical means to achieve connection between the mind and body.

Beyond the clinical evidence of its benefits Infant Massage is clearly one of the most natural methods of providing a warm and loving relationship with your infant.

Massage is a wonderful way of communicating with your infant before words.

About the Course top

The primary focus of the Infant Massage course is to enable both parents to confidently deliver massage to their baby. Although massage can be enjoyed indefinitely throughout the child's life, it is most beneficial (and easiest to give) prior to an infant's ability to turn over or crawl.

The Infant Massage course includes weekly meetings for four to five weeks. These classes last an hour to an hour and a half. Flexibility is required to give priority to infants' and parents' needs. Infants should be at least 4 weeks old before attending classes.

Course Includes:

  • The theory and practice of massage
  • Specific techniques for infants and growing children
  • How to read and respond appropriately to your infant's behavioral clues
  • Supportive group settings where parents can share experiences and learn from each other

About the Instructor top

When my son Ethan was born, I left a 12 year, fast-paced career in consulting to become a full-time Mother and part-time Instructor. Ethan and I have developed a beautiful bond through massage and nursing which continues to grow. Prior to Ethan's birth I received training in massage and reflexology. I have also practiced yoga and other stress relieving techniques for many years. All of these skills have become important to my new role as the "Mommy." Loving touch is one of the greatest gifts my husband and I give to our son. With my certification in Infant Massage, I look forward to passing this skill on to other new parents as a nurturing tool. I hope the instruction will promote a parent/infant bond that is as joyful and strong as the one we enjoy with Ethan.
